Care work in the UK is one of the more accessible sponsored routes for Ghanaians, and one of the most misrepresented.
The work is physical and often unsociable. Shifts include nights and weekends. You will be supporting people with personal care, which is demanding in ways a job description does not fully convey.
The pay is set against a national minimum for sponsored roles, and it is enough to live on — but not enough to send large sums home in the first year, whatever anyone tells you.
What makes it worthwhile is that it is a genuine, legal route with a path to settlement, and employers who sponsor are generally serious about keeping staff. Go in with accurate expectations and it works. Go in expecting something else and it will not.
